Surf Sports competition provides members the opportunity to
refine and practice their lifesaving skills in the competition
arena at local, state, national and international level. Surf
Sports forms a significant component of the Surf Life Saving
movement. Competition improves a surf life savers' lifesaving
skills.
There are disciplines to cater for everyone's interest.
From swimming to board or ski paddling, surf canoe competition
and beach events including sprints and flags.
Refining lifesaving skills is an important part of Surf Life
Saving sport and as such competitions such as Inflatable Rescue
Boat (IRB) racing and Lifesaving Competition are specifically
designed to hone a surf lifesaver's knowledge and skills that they
would use in an everyday patrol situation.
Members participating in surf sports competition must be a
qualified lifeguard and must meet the patrol hour requirements
according to their membership category to compete.
